3 Bands YOU Need To Know On The Vans Warped Tour

It’s that time of year again! The Vans Warped Tour has hit the road with a bunch of amazing bands! I attended the Toronto date on July 9th and have come up with 3 acts that are a must see! They get down & dirty with the fans AND they make sure to give you a memorable performance full of interaction with the crowd (something that you don't see go on as much anymore at shows).

First up we have The Rocket Summer. Bryce Avary has done it again! Giving fans an amazing show that is memorable by getting involved with the fans & the crowd. He’s from Dallas/ Fort Worth , Texas and has been active in the music scene since 1999. You would think that with only about a half hour set, you can’t expect too much of a performance, but with Avary everything is done to it’s best. His upbeat tunes makes the whole set like an awesome dance party & big sing along. Everytime I see him live, he finds another way to blow you away making his performance better than the last (was that even possible?!). His current album, “ Of Men And Angels” is in stores now and you can catch him on the whole warped tour on the AP Advent stage, and if you are already a fan of The Rocket Summer be sure to stop by his tent and see when he is doing a signing!

Next up we have Artist vs Poet. There’s 5 guys in this band from Dallas, Texas (Tarcy Thomason [vocals], Craig Calloway [guitar&vocals], Joe Westbrook[drums], Joe Kirkland [guitar] & Jason Dean [bass]). These guys have been in the music scene releasing EP’s since 2007 and their debut album “Favorite Fix” was just released this year. I've honestly been a fan of these guys since they released their self-titled EP back in 2007, but they have ventured here as yet, so by all means this was the set I was most excited to see that day and was not sure what to expect. The band’s sound is very up beat and can get the whole crowd moving, in which they did and Thomason did a great job in getting the crowd involved as he moved around a lot during the set and had no fear in jumping into the crowd and passing the mic off to fans to finish parts of the song. It was nice to see that each fan knew all the lyrics which is great since it was their first time playing a show in Canada! You can catch Artist vs Poet on the Glamour Kills stage on the whole tour this summer!

Last but not least, another great band that will be on warped tour is Breathe Carolina. These two guys [David Schmitt & Kyle Even] from Denver, Colorado remind me of  3OH3 but with a more power pop / electronica  sound. They have been active in the music scene since 2007 and they recently re-released “Hello Fascination” this year as a deluxe edition that is in stores now. I've listened to these guys before, back in 2008 when "It's Classy, Not Classic" came out, but have never had the opportunity to see them live until now. Their warped tour set was filled with water guns, blow up killer whales and a lot of head banging! I mean, who doesn’t love head banging?! It was truly amazing to see how these guys interact with the fans as the experience was different,as opposed to the bands that just come on stage, play and then leave without doing anything interesting in between to get the crowd involved & hyped up. Catch Breathe Carolina on the Warped Tour all summer on the Atlec stage! And if you are already a fan, Breathe Carolina has teamed up with Umbrella Clothing to create a clothing line called "Blush" that is being sold at the Hannah Montana tent, (no, they aren't selling any Hannah Montana shirts but you can't miss that tent!) so be sure to check that out!
